“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
– Steve Jobs
Happy Father’s Day Fam! 💕 (and father figures, and everyday supermen in general).
We are flying high off the energy of this past week. In LA, we took Pride month to the LGBTQ community and beyond with a morning devoted purely to self expression. Literally, our theme was “a celebration of our true selves” and danggg, did it feel free. It’s a funny dichotomy, eh? — how when we “selfishly” lean in to who we really are (with no apologies and no compromise), we somehow connect even more deeply with others…
In Chi-town, we let a little sparkle out with our first rooftop party of the year, and in NYC, we celebrated Pride and Father’s Day, all in one morning. Quite the mash-up, but considering that the root of the matter was love, it turned out rather nicely. 💁😋
Fam, can we share with you one thing? There really is a lot of good that exists in this world. These dance floor mornings drive that home hard, and fiercely. It’s a choice to see it this way, yes — a conscious one we have to make every day, but when we do, it’s so real. And when we open ourselves to the good in life, the universe seems to deliver tenfold. Experiment with that if you don’t believe it. At the very least, it’s fun. 😉
Ok fam, that’s all for now. Keep the vibes high today, and scroll down for the good stuff.🤗

🦄 A FATHERS DAY DANCE FLOOR TALE🕺
Daybreaker inspires me to explore playfulness and dance in a loving environment. It is such a beautiful way to start my day and I look forward to it each month. I have made friends in the community and love watching my adult-“ish” friends rediscover their inner child.
As a father of two children, I am always looking for opportunities to nurture their creativity and sense of play. In their world of peer pressure and middle school angst, I want them to see examples of adults letting loose and embracing play. There are far too few opportunities for this in the world today. Daybreaker gifts this to me and my family. The space we create of mindful intention without the specter of alcohol makes it the perfect environment for kids of all ages.👨👩👧👦
Last month I took my kids to Daybreaker, and we played with bubbles, painting, music and dance — lots of dance. I thought it would be fun to bring costumes for us to wear, but they showed some resistance, so I left them in a bag. As the morning progressed, the safe space we created made my kids feel comfortable to express themselves, free from judgement. It was my daughter who first asked me if I brought our unicorn onesies.🦄🦄 “Why YES, I did!” In no time we all transformed into unicorns and danced with our new family, sharing smiles, love, acceptance and appreciation. We will cherish this memory forever! This was a gift that the community has given back to me. Thank you all.
So now, my kids are ready to boogie with me at more Daybreakers, and you can bet we’ll be investing in more costumes. 😉Express yourself, be free to be yourself, and the love will always come back to you.
With love & mischief,
// Bret

3 Ways to Show Dad (or anyone!) a Massive Dose of Gratitude…
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” – William Arthur Ward
1. // Instead of just handing Dad a pre-written signed card (though we love those too), write a few heartfelt paragraphs and then call him to share them out loud over the phone. Include why you love him; not just the fact that you love him.
2.// Brainstorm 21 memories of you and Dad from birth ’til now. Text him recaps of these memories over the course of the next three weeks, starting today. Include why these time capsuled memories meant so much to you. Trust us, he’d love to hear that you remember. ✨
3.// Encourage Dad to do something he’s kind of always wanted to, but has been too hesitant / scared / resistant. Is it traveling? Trying something new? Whether it’s a pep talk, a resource or some other sort of guidance, help him take the first step in making his next dream happen. My how the tables have turned…. #payitforward
The Science of Gratitude…
Believe it or not, gratitude is not just for the benefit of the receiver. Here’s how it helps YOU out, too. 😘 #winwin #2for2
🙏 The studies of happiness and gratitude are incomplete but so far, soooo much awesome data has surfaced. People who show gratitude have been shown to “have stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, better sleeps (and better waking). They’re more alert and more generous, compassionate, and happier. Grateful people also have a greater capacity for joy and positive emotions.”
🙏 Gratitude helps us see the greater good in others (and our capacity for it in ourselves), which therefore helps us feel a stronger sense of connection to the world at large.🌎
🙏 Research has shown feeling and showing gratitude helps assuage depression. Also, it’s physically impossible to feel gratitude and negative emotions at the same time. Soooo… beat that. 😋
Give these a try and see what happens in your relationship with the old man. Keep in mind, you can also try these with anyone in your life. Here’s to deepening connections and sharing love. 💕
Shake it like a polaroid picture …. that you should probs have printed so you can send to Dad. 🙌
