Happy Sunday Fam! 💕
One of the ways this fam finds joy is by doing something that most wouldn’t normally think of doing. Lucky for us, there are fellow co-conspirators out there just waiting to join in on the fun. Cue: The National Building Museum. This past Friday we celebrated Daybreaker D.C.’s third birthday inside FUN HOUSE.🏠🎈 This is their totally quirky, totally creative massive installation by Snarkitecture (pictured above and scope here for a few more sneak peeks.) The result? JOY.
Thank you NBD for helping us dance outside of the box. More mischief awaits… ✨
Ok fam. Keep scrolling for this week’s dance floor tale, your weekend playlist, all the upcoming events we have in store, and three things that went viral (that we actually kinda love).❤️

✨MAKING STRANGERS INTO FRIENDS✨
My first Daybreaker was a loooooong time ago… my friend got sick and cancelled at 4:45AM. Whawha! I couldn’t bring myself to call anyone to take her ticket. I almost bailed myself, but thanks to my newfound morning meditation, I came to with a clear and very reasonable solution. 6-7am was yoga. I go to yoga by myself seven days a week — why should this be any different? I can leave after if I feel “weird.” 💁
I arrive only to find out we aren’t doing yoga that morning; instead we are learning a dance routine. Ok. Why not? Ends up the graceful goddess teaching was someone I met in Panama. Yeah! Obviously some sort of sign. 🤞As we are wrapping up the dance rehearsal, I head over to grab a water. The first of the 7AMers are arriving to dance. One guy (Greg) walks in by himself. We smile and proceed to dance on the banquet and then in the circle the entire time. All sweaty smiles.😃
At the end, we exchange details, and he says he’s going to introduce me to Charlie, a woman he also met on the dance floor.
By 11AM, Greg and I missed each other so much we met for lunch. In the years since, Greg has even become a part of a monthly “think outside the box” dinner I co-host as has his girlfriend. Charlie ends up being a bad@ss woman, activist and writer who is now a contributor to my site, OhThePeopleYouMeet, covering topics ranging from love & lust on the road to the massively important refugee crisis.
Three change-makers meet on a dance floor, each of our friends cancelled on us that morning, and we almost didn’t go. I know there is so much more magic yet to be made from meeting Greg and Charlie.✨
Since my first Daybreaker, everyone I’ve ever brought has danced away with a new sense of gratitude. I’m a big believer in the community and spreading joy. Keep it up. I’m so happy to be a part of the movement.
With love & mischief,
// Michaela

3 Things That Went Viral (that we actually kinda love): one grandma’s epic tech-free suggestion, puppies getting haircuts and a restful productivity hack.
😯Noodle on this fantasy of one grandma’s suggestion of taking a worldwide IFW (internet-free weekend). Kelly Conad took her friend’s grandma’s query and ran with it… for at least one blog post. Kinda got us thinking… 🗯
🐶✂️Whoever thought a puppy getting a haircut could be so joy-inducing? They say emotions last 11 seconds, then after that, it’s up to us to change our focus to a better-feeling place. May this cutie be your immediate go-to next time you catch a temporary funk.
💡Try this idea for Monday. This throwback from the Atlantic recently resurfaced. It’s valid advice that suggests that the “perfect” concoction for productivity is 52 minutes of work, followed by a 17 minute break. Maybe use it to watch the puppy vid? On repeat?
Here’s to another magical week. 🦄
