Eats, Beats + Mindset: Recharge your body + mind in 4 super fun steps

 

We’ve worked hard all week fam. Now it’s time to play. We’re using this weekend as a recharge for mind, body and spirit so that by the time the first firework shoots off this Tuesday, we’re ready to embrace it in all its sparkly glory. So! With that Independence Day freedom, here are four fun ways to free yo’selves from potential holiday trip-ups and let your mind, body and spirit play this week.✨

 

Freedom from FOMO

 

As you venture through the sand, the sun, the grass, or any plans you have with friends, ask yourself, “am I making the most of this moment?” At Daybreaker, we are experience designers so we’re always thinking about how we can really soak up every ounce of every moment. Here’s a list of ways to make any experience more awesome.

 

1.// Make it into an event! Don’t just go out to dinner. Scope out a few hot spots prior to making dinner plans and call it a “Taco Tour” or a “Tour de French Food” or a “These are a few of my favorite dins” event.  Write out a map for your friends on paper napkins and have the last stop be a midnight picnic in your neighbor’s backyard.

 

2.// Add a theme! Headed to a BBQ or a beach day? Throw in a theme even if your guest list is just your mom and your dog. Trust us, themes make everything more fun. “White on White on White” or “Jean on Jean” or “Glitter and Gold” or “90s Throwback” are fun ideas.

 

3.// Hype it up! Create some crafty text message invites to each of your friends to hype up your evening (or morning!) plans. Keep it mysterious or make it goofy. Add some GIFs, intrigue and a zest for life. Life’s supposed to be fun, after all — make it count.

 

4.// Don’t stress over the fomo sparked from social media. Actually, avoid it all together, be in the moment and make your own fun. Live and be free.

 

5.// When in doubt, say yes.

 


Freedom from mindless eating

 

‘Tis the season for BBQ splurge foods. What are you bringing to the table? Our HQ team chow’d down on these “cookies” not too long ago and fam, we’re impressed. No sugar, no gluten, and made with sweet potatoes (?!) Yes, we were confused too but holy beach bucket — they legit taste like the real thing.

 

🍪  SWEET POTATO PROTEIN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 🍪

 

☝️ Here’s what you’ll need

1 small sweet potato or yam
½ cup smooth almond butter
1 egg, whisked
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 scoop (35 grams) Vanilla or Original Protein Powder
⅛ teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of salt
½ cup Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips or Carob chips

 

🔥 Baking Instructions, y’all

 

1. // Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Poke holes in a sweet potato with a knife then place in oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until sweet potato is completely soft. Then let cool. Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees.

 

2.// Peel sweet potato away from skin and place in a medium bowl. Mash with a fork until soft.

 

3.// Add almond butter, egg, honey and vanilla and mix well. Then add protein powder, cinnamon and salt and mix well.

 

4.// Fold in chocolate chips.

 

5.// Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to scoop out batter and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. The batter should make 12-13 cookies.

 

6.// Bake for 10-12 minutes or until cooked through. Do not overcook.

Freedom from negative thinking

 

If you’re human, it’s inevitable that some negative vibes might come your way. As we say on the dance floor, “we choose to be happy,” but what about the times when it feels hard to say this and mean it? Here are three quick ways to talk yourself through it:

 

 

1. // Let go of needing to feel better. If you don’t feel like “choosing to be happy,” that’s ok. Wrestling with yourself to feel differently just adds tension to tension. So notice it and tell yourself, it’s ok. It might feel counterproductive, but trust us, it’s not. 😉

 

2. // Remember that it’s not the situation that’s bothering you — it’s your thoughts about it. We know, mind explosion, right? 💥  Sit with this thought and see if it changes your perspective about anything.

 

3. // When you’re feeling bad, the most important thing to do is feel good. So stop thinking so much and focus on the sun, a friend’s voice, something you accomplished this week — anything that feels good. Shift your focus and be open to things being on the up and up.
