“Watch carefully
the magic that occurs
when you give a person
enough comfort
to just be themselves.”

Happy Sunday Fam! 💕
Summer’s winding down (don’t gooooo), and whether you’re playa-bound later this month or sweating it out in the city, we’ll be keeping the love and mischief going strong. #wegotchu 💃💦
This week, we danced on a BOAT for a sunrise cruise in NYC! ⛴ Mid-month next month, Seattle will be sailing and dancing on the Salish Sea for their first-ever boat party (Eeee!!). While we wait, we’ve got epic must-do’s aplenty. This Tuesday in LA, we’re dancing at NeueHouse Hollywood with our friends at GT’s Kombucha, and we’re making it unmissable for a million reasons (legend has it, a giant BOP IT, bound for the playa will make an appearance). #adultplayground

💪✨THIS. IS. ME.✨💪
On July 11th of this year I celebrated one year post-cancer treatment and one year of clear scans.🙏
Back in the winter of 2016 when the chemo process all began (or 2017… chemo brain makes for occasional difficulty in remembering) I went to a Daybreaker event and they captured this photo of me, blissed out and dancing onstage.
When I first saw it I was horrified and started picking out all my flaws: OMG I’m so sweaty, wow—look at all that chemo bloat/weight gain, ugh! This is me?!? When I look at this photo now, I think THIS IS ME: a few days out from removal of my failed mediport and PICC line placement, still tired AF but joyfully practicing yoga and dancing with strangers. ✨YES!✨THIS IS ME: cancer survivor, daughter of a breast cancer and stroke survivor, dancer, fighter. 💪
I kind of love this picture now.❤️
With love & mischief,
// Steph

What It Actually Means to “Click” with Someone: your brain science behind “vibing” delivered. 👯
You know that feeling when someone “just gets you?” It turns out human brains can actually “tune into each other.” The official term scientists use for it is “brain coupling” and it’s a phenomenon that brain scans literally record.
Here are the wildest things about it:
〰️ When We Profoundly Connect, Our Brains Mirror One Another. Uri Hasson (the neuroscientist who is obsessed with this topic) looked at brain scans of two people: one telling a story, the other listening. For those who were “really clicking,” their brain scans were similar, despite the fact one person was speaking and the other only listening.
〰️ People Can Develop Better Understanding Between Each Other: “The stronger the coupling between the speaker and the listener’s brain responses, the better the understanding,” Hasson told Princeton News of his findings. “Sometimes when you speak with someone, you get the feeling that you cannot get through to them, and other times you know that you click. When you really understand each other, your brains become more similar in responses over time.” Crazy. And we love it.
Thank you, inc.com for the brain food! 🤔🍽
